Tips from the photographer on your wedding day

Your big day is here and you've been planning every last detail for months. It's amazing that something you've prepared for this long goes by faster than you know, and as your photographer, I'd like to divulge a few quick tips to make sure you get the most out of your wedding day; so it's smooth sailing, less stress and all smiles (and maybe a few happy tears!)

My first vital tip is to make sure your photographer has NO surprises. What I mean by that is, if you're planning any sentimental events throughout your day, your

photographer should know and be ready (your secret is safe with us-promise!) Make sure we are aware of any friend/family drama that we can help divert by not putting Aunt Karen and Grandma June next to each-other for the big cozy family photo. The more we know and are prepared, the better your photos will be and with that the memories! Also, most of us are great with time management and keeping on schedule so we can make sure you don't miss out on capturing anything that was really important to you.

My second tip is the 10 second rule. Exchanging rings, your first kiss, any major part of your day, hold it for 10 seconds to give your photographer the opportunity to take those photos so they have multiple shots, and different angles- you'll thank me later!

The next tip is more of a recommendation- get your bridal/groom party photos, all your formals out of the way before your ceremony.

Once your ceremony is over you should be able to enjoy your reception as much as possible and it is just so much nicer to get these shots out of the way when everyone is freshly made up (especially in the heat for summer weddings) and not hangry yet.

This gives you the opportunity to focus your after-ceremony formals on family and friends that weren't part of your wedding party and will get everyone to cocktail hour in a quick and orderly fashion to prepare for for the commencement of your fabulous reception.

My final tip for you is to not stress the little things. This is a day you will not get back and all the small things that didn't go perfect will not matter in the long run.

You will be with people you love celebrating the person who loves you the most and as your photographer, I promise to keep your eyes on the big picture and do all the backend work to make sure you barely notice all the little fires that need to be put out along the way. Because today you are the brightest star in the room and you are fabulous and when you look back on your gorgeous photos that is something you'll have forever.
